My "expert mom" will always be my mama!
I remembered how she was so cool for us to play outside when we were young and she would let us do freely what we (as kids) love to do! She's always been the supportive "yet strict" mama everyone would love to have!
I remembered getting sick a couple of times and she is the type who seems to always know what needs to be done! So when it was my turn to be a mom, I can't help but look up to her, she was quite "chill" and "cool" for a mom of 4 as compared to me who is a mom of 1!
I remembered Kyle got sick for the first time! He has cough and colds and I remembered going crazy not knowing what to do! You know how kids are when they cough --- no energy, no appetite, possible fever and crankiness! I remembered rushing to our Pediatrician and learned one thing --- to be calm and understand the causes of cough!
Sharing this to fellow first-time mommies ---
Coughing is a ntural reflex an is usually a sign that your child's body is trying to rid itself of an irritant, such as mucus or foreign object. The most common cause of cough in kids is an upper respiratory tract infection from one of more than 100 cold viruses.Other common causes of cough include infection, asthma, allergies/sinusities or pollution.
It is very important to seek advice from experts but recently, an event was held by GSK and I wasn't able to make it but I'm willing to share information for AskMeMom readers! There are 2 types of medicines you may look into for children who suffers from productive cough (cough with phlegm).
Ambrolex® is a medicine for children without bitter aftertaste. It comes with sweet blackcurrant flavor that kids will love.
Ambrolex® also comes in thrice-a-day tablet and once-a-day capsule formats for adults just in case the superman and superwoman of the household got sick!
And of course, if cough is caused by allergies, Virlix® (Cetirizine) can be a choice as it is an antihistamine that helps manage the symptoms of allergies! This is not only for children but also for adults.
