Beyoncé Reportedly in Negotiations To Make Her Own Disney Films - Atlanta Black Star Posted: 31 Jul 2019 12:00 AM PDT The live-action remake of "The Lion King" brought in $963 million in its first two weeks, according to Variety, and Disney, the company behind the film, believes Beyoncé is a big reason for that. So they are offering her a deal to produce her own projects for them. The "Lemonade" singer voices the part of Nala in the film, and she also released a collaboration album for it called "The Lion King: The Gift," which features Donald Glover, who stars in the movie as Simba, as well as artists like Pharrell, Kendrick Lamar, Burna Boy, Jessie Reyez and Wizkid. Beyoncé's husband Jay-Z also appears on the LP, as does their 7-year-old daughter Blue Ivy. The album now holds the No. 2 position on the Billboard 200. The Houston-raised performer also released a single for the movie titled "Spirit," which racked up over 28 million YouTube views in just two weeks. According to The Sun, Disney believes all of those things is why "The Lion King" is a big success, and they'd like Beyoncé to create movies for them and duplicate those high numbers. But negotiations are said to still be ongoing. An insider also claimed the singer's deal with Disney to join "The Lion King" was one of the largest ever but no figures were released. Back in April, shortly after Beyoncé released her concert film "Homecoming" on Netflix, which was praised by critics and fans alike, it was announced that she signed a $60 million deal with the streaming company. The deal is said to be for three projects, with "Homecoming" being the very first release. It's also been reported that $20 million of that deal was for the "Homecoming" film." |
